Why Consider High Speed or High Performance Doors
With speeds up to 11ft/sec, high speed doors are ideally suited for areas with high traffic flow, security issues or environmentally controlled areas. They are used for both exterior and interior openings.
High Traffic Area Doors
Car dealerships, office towers, condominiums and other high traffic areas require fast acting doors to allow traffic to quickly move into and out of the building.
Temperature and Dust Control
Doors that open and close quickly minimize the opportunity for energy loss and dust to blow in and around. High speed doors can significantly lower energy costs from heat loss in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. They are an obvious choice for cold storage areas or areas any area where temperature control is a concern.
Environmentally Controlled Areas
Access to specialized environments such as areas requiring NEMA 7 (dust) or NEMA 9 (vapor) motors and controls are good applications for high speed doors to minimize exposure and air exchange.

Engineering Features of High Speed Doors
High performance doors are highly engineered because of the higher demands placed on them. They are cycled more and each open and close cycle puts more stress on the door and opener. It takes more force to open a door faster especially when it starts and stops, which is why we recommend soft start/stop operators with all high speed doors.
Another way to reduce stress is to reduce the weight of the door using lightweight materials such as high strength fabric. When security is a concern high performance doors can be made out of metal or a combination of metal (on the outside) and fabric.
Safety Features and Breakaway Doors
Additional safety features are also available including break away panels and interlocked light curtains. Break away features allow doors to release from the tracks if they are hit and be brought back into service with little or no adjustments.
